Travelers can now enjoy a smoother and much more time-efficient journey between Paris and Berlin by train, as two of Europe’s biggest rail operators, Deutsche Bahn and SNCF, have launched a new direct daytime service. The much-needed upgrade cuts journey time from up to 13 hours down to less than eight hours, opening up a modern, efficient route to connect one of the Continent’s most vibrant capitals with its sister city.
A Step Forward for European Rail Travel
New intercity express service that began 16 December is the prime example of an increased trend of interest in green yet comfortable travel. It commutes from the Gare de lest in Paris every day, at 9:55 am, and reaches Hauptbahnhof in Berlin by 5:58 pm. A streamlined schedule that this promises is not just practically viable for travelers but it also becomes a scenic tour across Europe.
Highlights on Way
Many beautiful European landscapes are crossed, as the train passes through views of vineyards in Champagne, the rolling Vosges hills, and rolling countryside in central Germany. During its journey, it also stops at three important cities along the way: Strasbourg, Karlsruhe, and Frankfurt am Main. Therefore, in crossing big rivers like Rhine, Neckar, and Elbe, travelers are guaranteed an opportunity of meeting with two different cultures and landscapes.
This improved link overtakes the night train service, which has slower overnight speeds. This will be the first daytime train service to link Paris to Berlin after nearly a decade. It is still far from competing with the likes of France’s TGV network. Its still decent average speed at 96 mph ensured hassle-free, timely arrival.
Onboard Experience
This is also the ICE train, up-to-date facilities that enjoy making the journey. They have a restaurant onboard whereby passengers can enjoy the dishes to see some of the German specialties called currywurst. The entire experience is designed to combine efficiency with relaxation through huge, spacious seating and scenic windows.
A Journey Through History
This new service is not only a travel option but also a bridge between cultures and histories. Passengers pass through landmarks such as the former German frontier and iconic cities, reminding them of Europe’s shared heritage and progress. It is the symbolic importance of the route that passengers and officials alike celebrate as a milestone in rail travel.
Looking Ahead
This however takes less time to complete, and there’s still hope that the upgraded trips will even reduce the traveling time and make rail even a much stronger contender against air transport. Currently, this service, for one, presents a big advancement to an environmentally-friendly and hassle-free trip.
Travel Tips
The direct ICE service ticket price ranges between €59.99 in second class and €69.99 in first class. Travelers owning an Interrail pass can travel with the same by adding supplement charges. Therefore, the option to upgrade to a first class is worthwhile for travelers traveling through this beautiful route.
